And Away We Grow....the Grill MicroGreen SaladBowl !

So the grill that was left by them previous tenant nd used by us for two years has finally gotten a bit too rusty to risk the bottom falling out onto our rubber roof.  It seemed only reasonable to convert it into a growing container...

We put the bottom grate back in to avoid the rust touching the soil... then covered the grate with marble rock and a broken ceramic bowl for drainage...
Then came the soil along with a sprinkle of hardwood ash in the catch canister of the old grill...
After topping off the soil we proceeded to sow seed of various types (mustards, kale, arugula, beets, onions etc.)  We went heavy so that we could grab some sprouts and micro's the grab a handful of scallions and beet greens leaving a few to fully develop... constantly reseeding the greens so they continue to produce... it should be a fun tasty project !
After the seed went in we spritzed and spritzed and spritzed....
then we covered it with glass to retain moisture and dropped the lid to keep the heat in from the early spring afternoon !
And because of the premium conditions only 4 days later sprouts appear...
We will keep you updated on how it TASTES !

  1. Hi Luke, Just wanted to drop by your Blog and post a comment. Thank you for your presentation on container gardening to the NorDx Lunch and Learn yesterday. It was REALLY well received!!! You are awesome. I promoted your Blog and art as well. Hopefully you will get some well deserved traffic here. Keep up the great work "keeping it local".
